ISD provides support to SME's, Micro enterprises and individuals located within the convergence areas of Wales.

The Convergence area contains the 15 Local Authorities of Isle of Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Bridgend, Rhondda Cynon Taff, Merthyr Tydfil, Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly and Torfaen.
ISD primary focus is four main industry sectors as outlined by the Welsh Government:
- Advanced Materials & Manufacturing
- Energy & Environment
- Life Science
- Creative Industries
